Sydney FC’s teenage sensation Akol Akon is to join Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids in a club record deal at the end of the A-League 2026/27 season.
The 17-year old will move to the United States in a multi-million dollar deal which marks the largest transfer for a teenager in Sydney FC’s history.
The deal is also one of the largest in A-League history and could rise to even more depending on the success of the move.
The Rapids recently sold Socceroos international Lucas Herrington for a reported AU$30 million and have now turned their eye to the young forward.
Having already signed with Colorado, Akon has been loaned back to Sydney FC and will wear the Sky Blues number 7 jersey for the remainder of this season.
Akon was awarded the Sydney FC 2026 Rising Star Award at the Sky Blue Ball and is expected to make a lasting impact on the club through his incredible talent and dedication.
The record-breaking deal for the teenager is further recognition of the opportunities for talented young Australians within the Sky Blues set-up.
“I credit a lot of my improvement over the past year to the club and the leadership of Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo,” said the forward who signed from rivals Western Sydney Wanderers at the start of last season.
“I’m excited to see what the future brings and how my career will develop in the United States.
“I owe so much to this team, I’ve loved representing the Sky Blues, and I’m looking forward to giving my all this season and leaving Sydney on a high.”
Akon currently holds the record as Sydney FC’s youngest-ever Men’s player, making his debut at 16 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
The winger is also the youngest player to feature and start in an A-League Men’s Grand Final, taking the field at only 17 years and 2 days against Auckland FC in May 2026.
Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo looks forward to Akon’s promising career and future ahead.
“He has great potential to play at the highest level and a bright future ahead of him,” he said.
“This move to the Colorado Rapids is the next chapter in what I believe will be a long and successful career,” he said.
“Akol has really come into his own not only as a player but as a young man in the past year.

Akon is also the youngest player to ever feature in an A-League Finals match and has already played 18 matches for Sydney FC.
The youngster will become Sydney FC’s youngest ever Men’s goal-scorer if he’s able to find the back of the net before March 25th, 2027.
