Sydney FC defender Zac Anderson says he’s ready for whatever Pohang Steelers throw at the Sky Blues at the Steelyard on Wednesday night.
Facing the Koreans in matchday three of the AFC Champions League group stage is nothing new for Anderson after two campaigns with the Mariners, and the central defender is hoping to utilise that experience as Sydney FC chase top spot in group H.
“The Koreans will be tough but we’re ready for them,” Anderson said.
“I’ve been here for two ACL campaigns with the Mariners against Suwon [Bluewings] and Seoul and both games were tough games but we got a result in one and the boys are coming here full of confidence.
“We’ve been talking about it all day that we’re not coming here for a draw, we’re coming here to win the match because we’re coming off a lot of confidence from the Guangzhou game.
“The Koreans are a lot like the Japanese. They’re technically superior, they work hard, they’re physical but we’ll talk about the way we can counteract that.
“We’ll make sure we’re physically and mentally ready for Wednesday night.”
With over 30 hours of travel behind them, the Sky Blues finally settled in Pohang on Monday evening, as Anderson said spirits were high in the group ahead of Wednesday’s clash at Steelyard Stadium (kick off 9:30pm AEDT).
“It’s been a big 48 hours since we left Sydney,” he said.
“The boys are here, we’ve had a good meal at the hotel and spirits are high. We’re excited to get some rest and really look forward to Wednesday night with a good training tomorrow and get our head around things in Korea.”
