Sydney FC will go into the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season with a $1million playing strip after Webjet and Destination NSW committed to extending their shirt sponsorships following unprecedented global and national exposure over the last 12 months.

Buoyed by the Alessandro Del Piero effect, Webjet will remain on the front of the Sydney FC home and away shirt with Sydney.com proudly displayed on the back of the shirts following Destination NSW-s decision to extend its sponsorship agreement.

With Caltex Australia already committed to the Sydney FC shorts sponsorship for the 2013/14 season, Sydney FC leaves for an historic three-week tour of Italy with a strong portfolio of tier one sponsors proudly displayed on the playing strip.

“Sydney FC is thrilled to have the corporate support of Webjet and Destination NSW for the 2013/14 season,” said Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata. “Sydney FC takes pride in the relationships it has with its Corporate Partners and the renewal of Webjet and Destination NSW gives us a strong grounding to start the 2013/14 season.

“Sydney FC has enjoyed strong growth across all of the revenue metrics over the last 12 months including sponsorship, membership and merchandise and we are confidently working towards even more growth throughout the 2013/14 season across all streams.”

Webjet and Destination NSW will feature on the Sydney FC playing strip when the Sydney FC team leaves for Italy on Friday, where the will enjoy a further boost in brand exposure with European media outlets attending training on a regular basis at the team-s Jesolo training base.

Webjet Managing Director, John Guscic commented: “We are delighted to renew our major sponsorship with Sydney FC for the upcoming season. We are proud to support further growth for football in Australia and look forward to a successful season for the club. Webjet received a significant amount of brand exposure through its support of Sydney FC, both within Australia and internationally, and we look forward to that continuing through the next 12 months.”

Destination NSW also welcomed the continuation of the sponsor partnership, citing tours to Japan and Italy as key opportunities to promote the Sydney.com brand and website.

“Sydney FC-s recent trip to Japan and their forthcoming tour of Italy provides a fantastic opportunity to promote Sydney and NSW into some of Destination NSW-s key tourism markets,” said NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris.

“There will be great interest in Italy for one of Sydney FC-s key players, Alessandro Del Piero, in his home country, providing the Sydney.com brand and website with even greater exposure to an instant global audience.”

“Under the sponsorship arrangement, the Sydney.com logo will continue to appear on the back of all Sydney FC home and away playing and training jerseys, as well as on official Sydney FC team merchandise shirts throughout the 2013-14 Hyundai A-League season.”

NSW Minister for Sport, Graham Annesley, said the sporting world is looking at Sydney and NSW after two big months of sport in NSW.

“The NSW Government recently announced a record-breaking winter of major events in our state, with an economic boost of over $100 million,” Mr Annesley said.

“By hosting Manchester United last month for their clash against the A-League All Stars, as well as the Socceroo-s World Cup qualifying match v Iraq at ANZ Stadium, the profile of football in NSW has certainly grown, and it is fantastic to see that Destination NSW have extended this sponsorship deal with Sydney FC.”

Sydney FC has also enjoyed a dramatic increase in second-tier sponsorships for the 2013/14 season and beyond with St George Bank recently pledging their corporate support for the Sky Blues as the official Community Partner.

The Sydney FC squad departs Australia for Venice tomorrow morning (Friday) where the Sky Blues will play six games including matches against Padova, Venezia, Vicenze and Reggiana, further enhancing the Sydney FC brand in Europe.
