Thirteen Current And Former Sydney FC Players On Matildas Duty This Week

Sydney FC’s Women will take a well-earned rest from competitive action this weekend due to the international break after a hectic early season schedule involving a Sydney Derby and trips to Adelaide and Uzbekistan.

However, six of the squad will be in action alongside seven former Sky Blues players who have been selected to play in the Matildas or Young Matildas squads.

Jada Whyman was called up for the Matildas squad yesterday replacing Mackenzie Arnold, who picked up an arm injury last week.

The Sydney FC number one will join her former teammates Remy Siemsen, Charlie Rule, Amy Sayer, Claire Wheeler and most notably, our current Liberty A-League Young Player of the Season recipient, Sarah Hunter, who received her debut Matildas call-up, replacing Australian Captain Sam Kerr.

The Matildas will face Canada in two friendlies on the 2nd and 5th of December. They will be looking to repeat a similar performance to their 4-0 thrashing of the Canadians in their World Cup campaign earlier this year.

Five Sky Blues will also feature in the Young Matildas squad: Tahlia Franco, Shay Hollman, Zara Kruger, Indiana Dos Santos and Jynana Dos Santos are all regular call-ups for the team.

The Young Matildas will face China in two friendlies on the 3rd and 6th of December, with both games crucial for the Australian side as they look to take on a dominant Chinese team ahead of the U20s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan next year.

Regular Matildas and former Sydney FC players Alanna Kennedy and Caitlin Foord will also be reunited again in the Matildas camp after playing in the Sky Blues Championship-winning 2018/19 squad.

The Sky Blues will next play away to Newcastle Jets in the Liberty A-League on the 10th of December.
