Devenish-Meares is sent off

Ten-man Sydney FC have been defeated against a stubborn Central Coast Mariners squad who took the points thanks to two goals from striker Alou Kuol.

The Sky Blues dominated the opening half but things changed when goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares was sent off for bringing down Kuol outside the box as he chased a throughball.

His replacement Redmayne made a remarkable save in the 50th minute but couldn’t deny Kuol eight minutes later when he struck a brilliant header.

Polish frontman Patryk Klimala equalised shortly after following good work from Lolley but Kuol notched the match winner moments later, heading home a fabulouse cross from Doka.

Caceres battled hard.

What They Said: Ufuk Talay: “I thought until the red card we were quite comfortable, I thought we had a lot of the ball.

“Did we create enough chances? Probably not at times but having the protagonist is more difficult than being a team that sits behind the ball and waits for moments to counter attack.

“Obviously the red card changes the game but the goals that we concede, I believe has got nothing to do with tactics.

“It’s just defending the moment, individual challenges the we need to make in the box and two headers where we don’t challenge the player, we lost the player in the box and he gets his head on the ball again.

“The boys worked hard to get themselves back into the game so disappointed to lose it 2-1.”
