Sydney FC midfielder Mickael Tavares is relishing being back with the Sky Blues as they get set to take on Belconnen United at McKellar Park on Wednesday night (kick off 7pm).
For Tavares, Wednesday night’s clash presents his first real hit out since Sydney FC faced Tottenham Hotspur in May and the Senegalese international is looking forward to the occasion.
“It’s always good to be back and see the teammates and new players that have arrived,” he said.
“It [training] was a little bit hard at the beginning because it was a long break for us but it’s always a pleasure to be back in training and I’m looking forward to how the team is going to perform.
“For me it will be a game to get fit,” he said.
“I always try to give my best to get fit and hopefully I can take that away from Wednesday night’s game.
“While we would definitely like to win I think the main thing to take away from this game will be the effect on the teams’ fitness for the season ahead which is very long.”
While snow was falling in Canberra as recently as last week, Tavares stressed that the cold won’t be an issue for the Sky Blues as he said Sydney FC’s most recent acquisitions are looking sharp ahead of the match.
“I don’t know about all the guys, but I think I will be okay with the Canberra weather,” he said.
“I think once you start playing you don’t even feel the temperature so I don’t think that will play any part in the game at all.
“They [the new players] are looking good,” he continued.
“We have some good new players with a lot of ambition and at the moment they are looking fit. It’s always a pleasure to be a part of this team.”
