The race is on for the final few places in Sydney FC-s Youth team, with coach, Steve O-Connor securing yet another signing for his squad.
Sydney United defender, Anthony Golec is the latest player to put pen to paper, leaving only three spots undecided in Sydney-s junior side.
“Probably 4 or 5 players vying for those 3 positions so we-re just umming and ahhing about how we can best support the senior squad,” said O-Connor. “It-s not only getting players into the youth team, it-s looking at how they can match it with any shortfall in the first team, how we-re going to fit in with them.”
Golec says he-s still coming to terms with his Sydney FC selection.
“It-s a dream come true, I-m sure if anyone else was in this position they-d be happy as well so I-m just pleased and we-ll see how the season goes.”
The 17-year-old hopes to make a career out of playing professionally, and believes the inaugural National Youth League competition should provide the perfect launching pad.
“Definately it-s a good opportunity for young kids to show themselves and for the A-League to come look at young players, and I think it-s a new beginning for the A-League.”
Sydney FC is close to securing the signatures of a number of players, with more recruits to be unveiled in the coming days.
The National Youth League will kick-off on September 26.
