Sydney young guns continue to fire

They were largely an unknown quantity a few weeks ago, but four rounds into the inaugural National Youth League season Sydney FC-s young guns have proven they are a force to be reckoned with.

“We-ve gotten off to a good start,” said striker Sean Rooney after the young Sky Blues- impressive away win over Perth. “We-re on top of the table, we-re undefeated, hopefully we can keep it up.”

After finding the net for the first time last week in FC-s round three win over Adelaide, Rooney collected a double yesterday against the Glory to help set up the 5-3 victory.

“It was a long trip, we knew it was going to be hard, it was hot weather, but we got the job done,” said the 19-year-old. “My aim is to score a goal in every game, so hopefully I can keep it up.”

Of concern to Sydney-s rivals would be the fact the side still has plenty of room for improvement.

“I-ve played with some of the boys before but until recently half of us have never played together,” Rooney explained. “Training can be tough because we can-t always get all the players together but we-re starting to gel as a group and things are looking good.”

This weekend Steve O-Connor-s side will again be on the road for a clash with the FC-s perennial enemies, the Melbourne Victory.

“It-s another big test for us. Melbourne haven-t gotten off to the best of starts but they-re a tough side and we-ll have to be on our game,” said Rooney.

The young Sky Blues will chase their fourth straight win when they take on the Victory at 4pm this Sunday in the Southern capital.
