The Sky Blues have enjoyed an intense week at training and Coach Alen Stajcic has been extremely impressed with the enthusiasm displayed by his squad.
“We know Queensland has been the best team in the comp so we-re the underdogs and we-re fine with that because we always play better that way,” explained the Sydney mentor.
Sydney-s season had been plagued by injuries, but most of its key players are back in action, boosting the side-s hopes for the do-or-die encounter.
“It-s all been positive and I-m sure people like Sarah Walsh and others will have a big impact on the game,” said Stajcic.
Towards the back-end of the Westfield W- League, the Sky Blues lifted their attacking intensity, tallying around sixty shots on goal in their last four matches.
“Really what we-re after is the execution after we make those chances and if we can do that then we-re a chance,” said Stajcic. “We-ve paid the price before for not taking our opportunities and we can-t make that mistake against the minor premiers.”
There-s no denying the ability in the Roar outfit, however Sydney isn-t intimidated by the powerhouse side and intends to bring its best in Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.
“We-re up for the challenge because we know what we-re up against – but we-re not over-awed by Queensland. If we bring our best to it then there-s no reason why we can-t win.”
The Sky Blue women will begin their fight for a place in the season decider at 4pm (Sydney time) on Sunday at Brisbane-s Ballymore Stadium.
