Match Report:

Sydney FC push forward from the first whistle, they attempt to find their feet early on and push into the opposing half, however the Wanderers dictate passing lanes early on, maintaining central areas and utilising combination play to further their attack.

The Sky Blues fight back, beginning to exploit the Wanderers defensive line as Juric’s attackers begin to close down defenders and start to engineer shots at goal, the home side switch the tempo, gaining momentum and winning two corners simultaneously just shy of the 20 minute mark, however the Sky-Blue defence are able to deal with the pressure.

Possession stays with Abraham’s side leading into the 30-minute mark, they cover deep ensuring Sydney FC special distribution is minimised, yet they push back reducing the home team’s ability to break towards the 18-yard box.

Juric’s team attempt to find a goal on the closing minutes of the first half, with both teams going back and forth, Wanderers get a positive chance in the form of a headed chance by Cong inside the area, guides it wide in the end as Sydney FC go into the break level.

The Sky Blues break into the second half, striving for the first goal of the derby, both teams open the initial ten minutes gaining traction on the pitch, looking and probing to try and make way for a chance.

With 15 minutes of play gone, Sydney FC get back to the back chances within two minutes of each other, Galic drives the ball to the 18-yard box, passing it to Hawkesby who hits it high for a goal kick.

Moments later Tanner trivelas a ball to the left wing which finds the run of Galic who cuts the past back across goal to Caspers who turns and shoots yet unable to find the back of the net.

Wanderers switch the tempo of play as the Sky Blue’s defensive line is tested, with just under 25 minutes to play Cong breaks past Fenton for a one on one with Robertson however Lemon tracks back to slide in for the last ditched effort and protect the scoreline,

Two minutes later Cong receives another chance from a deft ball inside the 6-yard box as she stretches to control it, turning and shooting however Robertson with the outstretched foot clears the danger.

The home side retain their attacking pressure leading into the last 20 minutes of play, as Sydney FC attempt to maintain their backline, however a defensive mistake in the 81st minute allows for a huge chance for Younnis running into a through ball, touching it past the Sky Blue defender, striking it in the area but Robertson is there to keep it out of danger.

Ante Juric’s team take a goalless draw and pick up a point in the Western Sydney Wanderers Derby away at Marconi Stadium, this positions them 3rd place on the Ninja A-League Table, they’ll head away to McKellar Park this week on Wednesday the 10th of December to take on Canberra United in hopes of taking the three points.

Post-Match Interviews: Ante Juric (Coach)

What they said: Ante Juric: “Today was a hard fought game. Admittedly, I am disappointed with the way we performed, in particular in possession, giving the ball away too often. In addition we missed some good chances.

However, with that said, our defending in the final third was amazing, we were desperate and defended as a cohesive strong unit.

We will take the point, which was probably a fair reflection of the game. Now we look to Wednesday vs Canberra.
