Sydney FC have secured the signing of one of the A-Leagues’ most exciting young talents, with dynamic forward Abel Walatee joining the Sky Blues on a four-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 21-year-old winger enjoyed a breakout season last year, showcasing the electric pace, explosive power and mesmerising skill that has marked him as one of the most promising attacking players in Australia.

Born in Ghana before moving to Liberia as a child and then settling in Australia with his family at the age of eight, Walatee has already made his mark on the international stage.

Most recently, he returned from a three-game tournament in China where he helped the Australian Under-23s (Olyroos) qualify for next year’s AFC U23 Cup in Saudi Arabia.
A former Western United player, Walatee said he was delighted to make the move to the A-League’s most successful club.
“I’m really excited to join Sydney FC and be given this opportunity to progress my career at such a successful club.
“The Sky Blues have a young and energetic squad who are looking sharp in pre-season and I’m confident we will be challenging for silverware this year.
“For me, this is the perfect place to keep developing, testing myself at the highest level in Australia, and working hard to give our fans the kind of attacking football they love.”

Head Coach Ufuk Talay said Walatee would bring an extra edge to Sydney FC’s frontline.
“Abel is an outstanding young talent with electric pace and mesmerising skill.
“He’s explosive, can create dangerous opportunities out of nothing, and he adds another fantastic weapon to our armoury.
“I’m sure he will frighten A-League defences this season and give us a huge boost in our push for success.”
Walatee has played 25 A-League games and two Australia Cup matches scoring four goals.
