Sydney FC are delighted to confirm the signing of 24-year-old American goalkeeper Heather Hinz on a one-year deal ahead of the 2025–26 Ninja A-League Women’s season.
Hinz brings elite-level experience from a standout college career and exposure to one of the world’s toughest professional women’s leagues.
A former University of South Carolina Gamecocks standout, she was named the 2023 Southeastern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year after posting 10 clean sheets in 20 starts—ranking first in the conference for clean sheets and save percentage.
Drafted 38th overall by Houston Dash in the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Draft, Hinz made her professional debut last year for the Dash as well as games for Fort Lauderdale United.

She mutually parted ways with Houston in May 2025 to pursue this opportunity with Sydney FC.

“I’m honoured to join Sydney FC—it’s a new country, a fresh environment and a challenge I’m genuinely excited for,” Hinz said.
“This club has always impressed me, and following in the footsteps of American goalkeeping greats like Aubrey Kingsbury (nee Bledsoe) and Michelle Betos is a real thrill. I want to learn, grow and help deliver a Championship.”
Head Coach Ante Juric welcomed Hinz’s arrival, emphasising the significant impact her international experience will bring.
“Heather is a world class goalkeeper and with that we are extremely happy she is joining the squad,” said Juric.
“She will bring quality, experience and overall professionalism to the club. Her time in the NWSL has given her exposure to top-level professionals and elite competition.
“We’re confident her experience and winning mentality will elevate our standards between the posts.”
Hinz’s arrival ensures quality and high performance within our goalkeeping unit, which includes Brianna Edwards and Sofia Fante a new young goalkeeper who only recently was called into the Young Matildas camp.
