Sydney FC’s young striker Mitch Glasson has joined Finnish first division club FC KTP on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old forward, who signed his first professional contract with Sydney FC last season, has made the move to the Veikkausliiga to gain valuable experience and regular playing time in a competitive European league.
Glasson, a graduate of Sydney FC’s Academy, has been highly regarded for his technical ability and eye for goal and is excited.
“I am thrilled to be joining FC KTP and taking this important step in my career,” Glasson said.
“Playing professional football in Europe has always been a goal of mine, and I’m incredibly grateful to Sydney FC for helping make this opportunity possible.
“The past few years at Sydney FC have been instrumental in my development, and I’m excited to test myself in a new environment.
“My aim is to contribute to the team’s success, grow as a player, and gain as much experience as I can in Finland.”
Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay expressed his enthusiasm for Glasson’s move and highlighted the potential benefits of the loan spell.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Mitch to continue his development in a competitive European league,” Talay said.
“Regular game time is crucial for a young striker, and this move will provide him with the platform to showcase his abilities and improve further.
“Playing in Finland will expose Mitch to different playing styles and challenges, particularly with the weather and pitches, and that will undoubtedly enhance his game.
“We are excited to see how he progresses.”
Glasson’s move to FC KTP underscores Sydney FC’s commitment to developing young talent and providing pathways for players to reach their full potential.
FC KTP are newly promoted from the Finnish second division and are set to begin pre-season training ahead of their kick off in April.
Glasson arrived in Finland on Friday.
He has made 20 appearances for the Sky Blues all from the bench and scored a penalty in the Australia Cup shootout win over Central Coast Mariners last season.
