Star Sydney FC midfielder Brett Emerton has hailed the coaching and playing talent of Manly United after helping conduct a training session last night at Cromer Park.
Sydney FC organised a coaching development session for Manly United youngsters, aged from 10 through to 15, after a scheduled match for Tuesday evening was cancelled.
Whilst disappointed at the fixture being cancelled, Emerton found the evening a gratifying experience.
“It-s a shame the game didn-t go ahead on Tuesday night, but I-m glad I made the trip here and very impressed with what I-ve seen,” said Emerton.
“Some of the young boys have shown exceptional skill and understanding of the game as well. To be here tonight is great for me and there is some very good young talent here tonight and hopefully they-ll grow up to be future Socceroos.”
The current Socceroo also gave the approval to the coaching staff at the club.
“Some of the coaching I-ve seen here tonight has been first class; the kids have got every chance of making it,” Emerton said.
Emerton said the players needn-t look far for inspiration with their future aspirations, with current Socceroos Captain Lucas Neill a local junior.
“Lucas is a great player and great captain of our national team,” Emerton said. “They have the Lucas Neill stand at the ground, so he-s made his mark here in Manly and in the rest of the world.”
Whilst injury has limited Emerton on the field, he has been busy off it, culminating in his nomination to be the 2012 Phillips Sports Dad of the Year.
“Football-s important to me, but family is the most important thing in my life and to be nominated for Sports Dad of the year is a great honour.”
Today (Tuesday) is the last day to vote for Brett Emerton here. Learn more about the Sydney FC and Socceroo star, as well as showing support for Brett by voting for him as the Sports Dad of the Year.
