Sydney FC Sign Young Duo

Sydney FC’s W-League squad continues to take shape, with Canberra United Young Player of the Year Jessika Nash and former Sydney FC Member Sarah Hunter signing for the Sky Blues for Season 2021/22.

Nash (aged 16) is a Junior Matilda and 2020/21 Young Footballer of the Year nominee who starred for Canberra United last season, while Football NSW Institute graduate Hunter (aged 17) joins after a solid debut season for the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Hunter, who made eight starts in midfield for the Wanderers in 2020/21, said she was excited for the season ahead after switching allegiances in what will surely add renewed spice to the Sydney Derbies.

“I had a really enjoyable debut season last year, but I believe Sydney FC is where I can take my game to another level,” Hunter said.

“I’m excited for what’s ahead and I can’t wait to start work with Ante Juric and all the squad.

“My father and brother have been Sydney FC Members for a long time, and I too held a Membership before playing, so I’m excited to be returning to the club I supported as a child.”

Nash was an influential figure in Canberra’s charge to the Finals Series last season, and the defender said she didn’t hesitate when the chance to join Sydney FC arose.

“I’m hugely thankful to Canberra United for giving me a start in the W-League and I’m really excited now for the future at Sydney FC,” Nash said.

“I think I can really progress my career in Sky Blue and I really want to make a positive contribution to this team and challenge for silverware.”

Head Coach Ante Juric said the duo would add quality and depth to his squad and ensure the Sky Blues are title favourites for the new season.

“I was very impressed with Jessika and Sarah’s debut seasons last year and I think they’ll add real quality to our squad,” Juric said.

“I’m expecting the pair to really push for a starting spot and challenge our squad, and ensure we remain competitive in the new season.”

Sydney FC expect to make more signings in the next few weeks, ahead of the squad returning for training in October.
