Sydney FC Sign ‘Save Of The Year’ Goalkeeper

Hear from Bri on her move to Sydney FC

Sydney FC has completed the signing of New Zealand international and Liberty A-League ‘Save Of The Year’ winner Brianna Edwards for the next two seasons.

The 21-year-old Sydney-born goalkeeper has spent the last three seasons with the Wellington Phoenix and has made one appearance for the Football Ferns through her father’s nationality.

Edwards wins the Liberty A-League Save of the Year

Edwards will join the Liberty A-League Champions for their second successive title defence.

“It’s really exciting to be joining my home-town club and helping to continue this title winning dynasty,” she said.

“I can’t wait to get going and start my fight for a place in the starting line-up.

“I grew up playing in the local area so it’s nice to be returning home to my roots.”

Brianna Edwards joins her home club.

Head Coach Ante Juric believes Edwards will become a very successful part of the Sky Blues for the next couple of years.

“Brianna is an important and a great addition to our team,” he said.

“She has proven to be a very good keeper over the past few years and she will fit in very well at Sydney FC.

“I see Brianna flourishing at the club and working her way to yet another level.

“We welcome her to the club.”

Edwards will join Jasmine Black and Tahlia Franco as the club’s contracted goalkeepers for next season.

On the future of Jada Whyman, Juric added: “We are still in negotiations with Jada and would like to be able to sign her, however she is expected to agree terms with an overseas club.”

Meanwhile Sydney FC has released two-time Championship winning striker Jynaya Dos Santos from the final year of her contract to allow the Young Matilda to find more regular starting opportunities elsewhere in the Liberty A-League.

Dos Santos to leave Sydney FC in search of more regular first team opportunities.

The club wishes to thank Jynaya for her commitment and service to Sydney FC over the last two seasons and wishes her all the best for the future.

“Jynaya has made some very important contributions to us over the past two seasons, and we wish her well,” Juric said.

Dos Santos made nine appearances for the club, scoring one goal, the winner against Wellington Phoenix in December this year.
