Sydney FC Sign Experienced New Goalkeeper

Sydney FC have completed the signing of experienced former Romanian club goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares until the end of the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2025-26 season.

The 27-year-old joins the Sky Blues in time for the start of pre-season and will fight it out with current keepers Andrew Redmayne and Gus Hoefsloot for the number one jersey.

Devenish-Meares during his four years in Romania playing professionally.

Sydney-born, he was recruited internationally to play in the United States college system with the South Florida Bulls, before commencing his professional career in Europe with Romanian powerhouse FC Rapid Bucuresti in 2020.

Moves to fellow Romanian clubs SSU Politehnica Timisoara and CS Tunari followed before he returned home last season to sign for current NPL NSW leaders Rockdale Illinden FC.

“I am thrilled and honored to sign for my hometown club, the club I supported throughout my childhood,” he said.

The keeper had a successful spell in Romania

“It has taken a seven-year journey overseas since my time as a junior with Northern Tigers FC, but I am incredibly proud to officially become a Sky Blue.”

Devenish-Meares, who won two promotions during his time in Romania, spent much of last season training with the Sky Blues and impressed enough to be offered a two-year contract.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this group over the past 11-months, and it’s exactly the kind of environment I wanted for the next stage in my career. I am eager to make a meaningful contribution and help Sydney FC add more trophies and titles to the cabinet.” he said.

Head Coach Ufuk Talay is looking forward to the competition between the goalkeepers.

“Harrison has shown he is an excellent keeper and I expect him to put real pressure on Andrew and Gus for the starting jersey.

“He has been in excellent form for Rockdale and is a huge reason why they are top of the New South Wales National Premier League.

The keeper will battle it out with Andrew Redmayne (pictured right) and Gus Hoefsloot for the number 1 jersey.

“We have the best set of keepers in the A-League now and it is going to be a fascinating duel between them this campaign.”

Devenish-Meares moved to the United States as a 20-year-old to complete a Bachelors degree in Biological Science at the University of South Florida.
