Sydney FC re-sign Grand Final match winner

Sydney FC has re-signed 2024 Liberty A-League Grand Final match winner Shea Connors for the 2024-25 season.

The 28-year-old scored the only goal of the game as Sydney FC defeated Melbourne City 1-0, to claim a record fifth Championship at AAMI Park.

Striker Connors returns to the Sky Blues for a second consecutive season and is determined to make another huge impression.

“Winning the Grand Final and scoring the crucial goal was one of the best moments of my career and I’m so happy to be returning in Sky Blue,” she said.

“They are a wonderful group of girls at Sydney FC and I have fostered such great relationships with so many of them, that I had no hesitation in re-signing.

“I’m so excited to defend our Championship and win our third consecutive title.”

Connors succumbed to a broken foot early in the campaign and only managed to return fully fit later in the season.

Head Coach Ante Juric is keen to see what Connors can achieve in a full season and is looking forward to watching her build on her Grand Final match winner.

“Shea unfortunately suffered a major injury last season, which impacted her season.

“However she showed great character to get back on the field and lead us to Grand Final success, with some great performances in the Finals Series,” he said.

“She showed what she is capable of in a special moment for her and the club in the Grand Final.  We will be looking forward to more of this throughout the upcoming season.

Sydney FC celebrate Connors’ goal

“I’m delighted to be welcoming her back to Sydney FC.”

Meanwhile Sydney FC English striker Fiona Worts won’t be returning in Sky Blue for the upcoming Liberty A-League season.

Worts began last year with a hatful of goals, however a lateral collateral knee ligament injury just before Christmas ruled her out for the rest of the season.

Juric thanked Fiona for her performances in the Sky Blue jersey.

“Fiona scored some very important goals for us last season and we wish her all the best for the future,” Juric said.
