Six Sydney FC Liberty A-League players’ hard work has deservingly translated into recognition on the international stage during the past few days.
Five Sky Blues featured in the Young Matildas squad based in Xiamen, China for two friendlies against their hosts leading up to the U20s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan next year.
Tahlia Franco, Shay Hollman, Zara Kruger, Indiana Dos Santos, and Jynana Dos Santos were called up with three of the Sky Blues featuring in a 3-1 win over the Chinese.
Zara Kruger secured a highly sought-after starting position in the international friendly on Sunday afternoon, with Indiana Dos Santos and Shay Hollman both coming on as substitutes in the second half.
Indiana Dos Santos played 45 minutes as a half time sub and started the counter-attack that led to the team’s third goal. Shay Hollman was awarded 15 minutes on the field at the back end of the game while Tahlia Franco and Jynaya Dos Santos were unused subs.
In the Matildas Jada Whyman, who was called up to replace the injured Mackenzie Arnold, has been training in the bitter Canadian conditions alongside some of her former Sky Blue teammates.
Whyman watched her side from the bench, fall to a heavy 5-0 defeat to Canada in their penultimate friendly of the year.
Her former Sydney FC teammates Charlie Rule and Sarah Hunter received their first caps for the senior Matildas side.
Remy Siemsen, Amy Sayer, and Claire Wheeler received their 7th, 9th and 17th caps for the team and were all present in the starting lineup.
Both Matildas and Young Matildas are back in action in the next few days.
