With a grueling fight until the final whistle for the Sky Blues in Friday’s Derby clash against their Western Sydney rivals, Coach Kisnorbo sees the fierce effort of his team as a foundation that he can build the rest of the season on.
“I’m happy with the way my team competed. How they ran, their effort, and their mentality of not getting beat was 100%,” Kisnorbo said.
“As good as a pre-season can be, in games like a Derby sometimes everything goes out the window and it becomes who can work harder for longer, and get that half chance to score.
“I look at what they’ve done and how they’ve worked and I couldn’t be any prouder – things that maybe aren’t big for some but are very big for me.”
With some fresh faces in the forward line this season, Kisnorbo knows what the Sky Blues are working with and what they’re working towards, despite it being early on in the season.
“I think knowing that the first game was a Derby, gameplans can go out the window, and if someone makes a mistake it’s a goal or half a chance,” he said.
“I know what we’re working with and what we’re working towards. The forward line did what I asked them to do, and that was to work as hard as possible and make it difficult.
“At the start of the game there were a couple of half chances that we could’ve capitalised on more, and maybe that’s something we have to improve on, but in terms of their performance tonight, they did everything I asked them to do.”
The Sky Blues are fired up and ready after a fierce performance against Western Sydney, and with a double header match against Adelaide United on the horizon, they’re looking forward to carrying the momentum of the Derby through the rest of the season.
