Sydney FC Make Football Department Appointments

Sydney FC has appointed board member Han Berger to the position of Technical Director and club legend Terry McFlynn to the position of A-League Football Manager.

In his new role as Technical Director Berger, who will remain a Sydney FC board member, will Chair the club’s Technical Core. 

The Technical Core is tasked with bringing to life Sydney FC’s football philosophy through the development and implementation of the club’s Technical Plan which will ensure a consistency in playing style and coaching methods across the entire club.

The other members of the Technical Core are Head Coaches Graham Arnold (A-League), Daniel Barrett (W-League), Robert Stanton (NYL/NPL), Assistant Coach Steve Corica, Academy Director Kelly Cross and Football Manager Terry McFlynn.

Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow said: “With the recent introduction of our Junior Academy we now have a total of ten teams at Sydney FC, starting from Under 13’s up to our A-League and W-League teams. It is critical to our success going forward that our football philosophy is embedded consistently across all of these teams. 

“As Technical Director Han will have an end-to-end view of all ten teams and will be responsible for ensuring a consistency in playing style and coaching method through the implementation of our Technical Plan. 

“With his many years of experience at the highest level in this field there is no one better placed to lead this important work for our club.”

Terry McFlynn, in his expanded role as A-League Football Manager will be responsible for player welfare, community engagement, team facilities and equipment and will report to CEO Tony Pignata. Terry will also be the first point of contact for player agents and will play a central role in assisting the Head Coach in player recruitment and retention.

“Terry has been part of Sydney FC since the inaugural season and has a detailed understanding of the inner workings of our football department. Combined with his strong leadership qualities Terry is well placed to step up into this more senior position within the club,” said Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata.  

Both appointments will come into effect as of 1st July 2016.
