Sydney FC have set a new Membership record by signing up 20,000 Members for the first time in the club’s history.
An Australia Cup win and a spike in women’s football interest has contributed to the Sky Blues breaking their record for the second successive season.
Sydney FC’s Men open their season against Melbourne Victory at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, two weeks after their Australia Cup win, and a week after the Sky Blues Women began their campaign in front of a record Liberty A-League crowd.
Chief Executive Officer Mark Aubrey praised the achievement at a boom time for Australian football.
“To reach 20,000 Members for the first time is a fantastic milestone for the club and it’s a great credit to our Members who continue to support us,” he said.
“We are endlessly grateful for the incredible passion and loyalty of our Sydney FC community, and buying a Membership is absolutely the best way to support the club.
“This new benchmark shows our commitment to capitalize on the momentum created by the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but we won’t want to stop there, and it’s important we continue to push those boundaries to engage our members and fans and provide them with great memories and experiences.
“We’ve already witnessed one cup win and a record crowd at Allianz Stadium this season and I’m extremely excited for what else is in store.”
Sydney FC’s Women’s Memberships have grown more than 800% year on year and the 20,000 milestone breaks the 17,296 record set in February last year.
Men’s Captain Luke Brattan believes the Members make a huge difference to results.
“Our Members’ support helped get us across the line in the second half of the Australia Cup Final to win the trophy,” he said.
“We need them behind us every week as our success relies on their backing.
“To reach this landmark of 20,000 Members is a phenomenal achievement for the club and we hope we see every single one of them starting this weekend against Melbourne Victory.”
