Sydney FC have tied down star attacking midfielder Max Burgess for the next two seasons after the Sydney Derby match winner agreed a new contract with the Sky Blues.
The Bondi born 28-year old has been in fantastic form in recent weeks helping to drive the Sky Blues to wins over Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne Victory and Scottish Champions Celtic among others.
Burgess was a boyhood Sydney FC Member and is thrilled at the prospect at staying with the club for another two seasons.
“I remember being in the stands as a young boy and hoping to represent the club on the field one day,” he said.
“To play for the biggest club in the country is a privilege and something I’m grateful for.
“I hope to experience and share great moments together with my team-mates and the fans.
“I’m excited for this opportunity and want to continue to work hard, learn and grow as a player and as a person.”
Burgess stayed loyal to the Sky Blues despite significant interest from other clubs.
Head Coach Steve Corica praised his recent performances and says Max is deserving of his new deal.
“He’s a quality player and he’s starting to show what he can do,” he said.
“He’s scored some very important goals for us recently, he is a very skillful, smart, quick player and is the type of person we want at the club.”
Burgess will figure against Melbourne City and at home Melbourne Victory over the next two Saturday’s in a game which will be his 56th and 57th games in all competitions for the Sky Blues having scored seven goals.
