Sydney FC 1 (Caceres 90’) def. by Perth Glory 2 (O’Neill 54’, Fornaroli 86’)

Moments That Mattered:

YAZBEK SHOT SAVED – 27’ – Burgessfloats a cross to Grant at the back part of the box who controls and lays it back to Yazbek to take a touch and shoot low, but the keeper is down to save.

O’NEILL GOAL – 54’ – Clisby shoots and Redmayne punches clear but the ball finds the feet of Brandon O’Neill who moves it to the side and slots it home.

BUHAGIAR CHANCE – 60’ – Buhagiar drives at the Perth defence and shoots but it goes over.

REDMAYNE SAVE – 69’ – Sturridge dinks a ball over the top of the Sky Blues defence to Sardinero who turns and shoots but Redmayne uses his body well to block.

FORNAROLI GOAL – 86’ – Clisby crosses from the left to Burke-Gilroy who lays the ball off to Fornaroli to take a touch and finish into the corner.

CACERES GOAL – 90’ – Amini is fouled in the box and a penalty is awarded.  Caceres steps up and drills it home.

What They Said: Steve Corica: “It’s the final third where we are lacking to finish chances off and that’s been the case for a couple of weeks now.

“We can say that we have Le Fondre out and Barbarouses out but we should be good enough to have won this game tonight.

“It was a massive three points for us and we didn’t take our chances when they came along again.

“Both goals were poor defending, very sloppy and you can’t afford to do that.

“I know we have played four games in ten days which is difficult to turn around but that’s no excuse for defending that we had.

“It was costly because the second goal killed us, as we got one back in the end.”

Report:

Sydney FC have gone down to a 2-1 defeat to Perth Glory in their fourth game in ten days.

Goals from ex-Sky Blue Brandon O’Neill and Bruno Fornaroli did the damage early in the second half with Anthony Caceres striking a late penalty.

O’Neill’s goal came after a Clisby shot was saved and the Perth Captain picked up the ball, made space and slotted it home.

Sydney FC tried to play their way back into the game and created chances through Ninkovic and Buhagiar but Fornaroli almost put the game to bed with a crisp finish in the final five minutes.

Caceres pulled a goal back for Sydney FC after Amini was fouled in the box and the Sky Blues had two more attacks to equalize but Perth held on for their win.
