Sydney FC has completed its pre season planning with coach Frank Farina confirming he will put the Sky Blues squad through a thorough preparation that will include 14 matches before the start of the Hyundai A-League season.

Sydney FC returned to Australia this morning after going down 2-1 to Japanese club Sagan Tosu with a clash against NSW State League side Macarthur Rams at Campbelltown Stadium on Wednesday (31 July) scheduled before leaving for a pre season training camp in Italy.

Sydney FC will play five or six matches in Italy as Farina and assistant coach Rado Vidosic work to overhaul the Sky Blues- style of play ahead of the season opener against the Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on Friday 11 October.

Following the three week Italian tour from August 2-24, Sydney FC players will have a one-week break before resuming training on September 2 to play three more Community matches against Football NSW State League teams.

The final stage of pre season will see Sydney FC take on fellow Hyundai A-League clubs Newcastle Jets (WIN Stadium, Wollongong), Brisbane Roar (Cairns) and Perth Glory (Sydney venue TBC).

By the time the curtain goes up on season nine of the Hyundai A-League, Sydney FC would have played five Community matches, six or seven games against overseas opposition and three fixtures with A-League teams, creating a balanced pre season program.

“We wanted a tough pre season and we have been able to put that together, which is good for our preparations,” Farina said. “I-ve said along we need to be fit and firing for the opening game of the season so we hit the ground running and this schedule gives us the framework to achieve that.

“We have managed to schedule some matches against State League sides to work on our fitness and some very tough matches against overseas opposition and fellow A-League sides to fine tune the players in readiness for the season.”

Sydney FC has also dedicated the final weekend before the start of the season to a stand-alone Fan Day, where Members and fans can get up close and personal with every member of the Sky Blues squad at Allianz Stadium on October 5.
