Sydney FC has completed the signing of American defender Jordan Thompson on an injury replacement contract until the end of the season.
The 25-year old comes into the squad to replace Captain Natalie Tobin who injured her anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) in round one and will remain on the sidelines until next year.
Thompson has been with Washington Spirit for the past two seasons, including as cover for US national team players taking part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
She headed to Israel in September to play for Hapoel Raanana and scored in her final game for the club on October 6th.
However upon the outbreak of the war she returned home and then signed with Sydney FC.
“I’m super excited to be here, I’ve always wanted to play in the A-League and play for a club which has such a great history and so much success,” she said.
“I’ve played centre back my whole life which is really fun; I don’t look like I do because I’m really short but I like to be really dominant in the air and I love to talk.
“Everyone is super nice, we had a ‘Thanksgiving’ [Thursday night] which was awesome to get thrown into the group and meet everyone before I started training.
“I’m really looking forward to bringing everything I can every day at training and in every game for the club and for the fans.”
Thompson arrived in Sydney on Thursday morning and goes straight into today’s squad. She will wear number 16.
