Sydney FC Clash With Canberra Abandoned

Sydney FC’s clash with Canberra United has been abandoned in the 53rd minute due a lightning storm which caused a blackout of Leichhardt Oval.

Sydney FC were leading 2-0 at the time thanks to a fabulous first half with goals from Princess Ibini and a third in three games from Lucy Johnson.

If the game is not rescheduled then the 2-0 result will stand given the game had reached half time.

7’ | TUMETH DENIED BY GREAT SAVE – Tori Tumeth’s header from a left-wing corner is brilliantly tipped over by keeper Sally James.

8’ | BRYSON SHOT – Bryson takes aim from range and forces James into a full-length diving save to her left.

17’ | IBINI GOAL – Captain Nat Tobin wins the ball at the back, plays an inch perfect ball into the path of Ibini and Princess slots it home right footed into the corner.

Match Report: Sydney FC’s clash with Canberra United has been abandoned and the 2-0 result will stand if the game is not rescheduled.

The Sky Blues completely dominated first half proceedings and could have scored seven or eight goals but were restricted to two thanks to the brilliance of Sally James in the United goal and the woodwork.

Princess Ibini opened the scoring after receiving a fabulous pass from Nat Tobin to slide the ball home before Lucy Johnson made it two with a great finish following a beautiful flick from Maddie Caspers.

Caspers also hit the bar while Tumeth, Tallon-Henniker and Bryson also came close before the game was abandoned.

What They Said: Ante Juric:- “It was very pleasing, there was a lot of high energy, a lot of forward movement and two excellent goals.

“It could have been seven, eight with the amount of chances we created in that first half, so very pleasing.

“We’ll obviously look to see if we’re going to be awarded the points or play but outstanding performance, best of the season in terms of energy, attitude, focus, and execution.

“Supposedly it’s a result after 45 minutes, but the APL will decide if it has to be rescheduled, but I think there’s a precedence that the result stands.”
