Sydney FC clash with Cahill’s Everton

Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC will clash with English Premier League (EPL) giant Everton and Qantas Socceroo Tim Cahill

Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC will clash with English Premier League (EPL) giant Everton and Qantas Socceroo Tim Cahill in an epic preseason showdown at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 10 July.

The A-League-s best will come up against some of the EPL-s biggest names as each team prepares for their respective 2010/11 campaigns right in the heart of Sydney.

The Sky Blues will be headlined by star strike duo Alex Brosque and Mark Bridge while Everton will boast the likes of Captain Phil Neville, Mikel Arteta, Louis Saha, Sylvain Distin and Jack Rodwell.

Sydney FC members can purchase their tickets in an exclusive pre-sale on Wednesday 19 May between 10am and 5pm via Ticketek while the general public sale commences on Thursday 20 May at 9am.

“This is an exciting opportunity for football fans in Sydney to see the A-League champions take on one of the English Premier League-s leading teams and one that is headlined by Australian Tim Cahill,” Sydney FC CEO Edwin Lugt said.

“The fixture at ANZ Stadium forms an important part of our preseason campaign and we expect to continue the success we had last season here against Everton.”

Coach Vitezslav Lavicka said: “The preseason is very important part of football. We are excited to play against Everton in Sydney. This will help us be ready for the A-League season and will be a good experience as we have many young players.”

Cahill, who will potentially still be involved with Australia-s third World Cup campaign when the tour starts, has confirmed he will play once he is available and said he is looking forward to seeing his club meet up with the army of Evertonians in his home land.

“I think it-s fantastic for the A-League and also Everton because Australia-s got a massive following of Everton supporters,” Cahill said.

“I get together and have a lot of signing sessions with the Everton supporters over there and they come from all corners of Australia. They-re a proud following and I think for a Premier League team like Everton to visit Australia is absolutely massive.”

Everton Manager David Moyes said Everton will arrive in early July for a three week tour.

“The facilities in Australia are first-class which is important to us because the training and the games will be a good part of our pre-season preparations,” Moyes said.

“Thanks to Tim Cahill, the Aussies know all about Everton and I am sure we-ll get a typically warm Australian welcome – even though it-s winter down under.”
