Sydney FC have appointed former Bank of Queensland (BOQ) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jon Sutton to the club’s Board of Directors, Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow confirmed today.
Sutton brings with him over 20 years experience in financial services and has extensive retail and business banking experience.
Sutton departed BOQ in 2018, having been with the bank for over six years. Previously Sutton was Managing Director at Bankwest and prior to that a senior executive at Commonwealth Bank.
Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow said: “Jon is a valuable addition to our Board. He brings a broad set of corporate skills gained from operating at the most senior levels of the Australian banking industry.
“Jon and his family are passionate Sydney FC fans and I, along with the rest of the board, look forward to working with him to continue our club’s growth and success.”
Sutton said he was excited by the opportunity and looking forward to joining the Sky Blues.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the reigning Hyundai A-League Champions,” he said.
“Sydney FC’s family first culture is one that is dear to me and I look forward to contributing in building future success to the club that symbolizes Sydney.”
Sutton’s appointment comes as Sydney FC Director John Simeone steps down from the Board after three seasons with the club.
Simeone joined in March 2016, and is relocating to Singapore to take up a new role as SVP, Asia with Qantas.
Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow said: “I would like to thank John for the major contribution he has made to Sydney FC over the last three years, a period John likes to regularly remind me has been the most successful in our history.
“I wish him well with the next step in his career and know he will remain an ardent follower of Sydney FC.”
In stepping down, Simeone wished Sydney FC well going forward.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement and time on the board over the last three years.
“I would like to pass on my personal thanks to David and Scott for the opportunity to be on the board of this great club and to the whole Sydney FC family for always making me feel welcome, from the office to the training ground.
“I will always follow Sydney FC and wish the club every success in the future both on and off the pitch.”
