Sydney FC is preparing for a massive turnout as the reigning Ninja A-League Champions aim to set a new regular season attendance record at Leichhardt Oval this Saturday afternoon.
It’s a Sydney Derby for the first home match of the 2024-25 season against fierce rivals Western Sydney Wanderers.
The game is set for a 2:15pm kick-off, with the Sky Blues hoping for strong support to help the team return to form following two early-season losses.
Sydney FC Head Coach Ante Juric said the team are looking forward to the game and believes the crowd’s energy will be crucial.
“Playing at Leichhardt Oval with a big crowd is always special and the atmosphere there can be electric,” Juric said.
“We would love to see all of our Members and fans show up, bringing their energy, and support with them. All of which the players thoroughly appreciate, enjoy and in fact feed off at every home game.
“As defending champions we know every team plays their best against us, however, with our home crowd behind us every weekend, we know we can become champions again this year, for a record third straight time.”
The club’s previous best at the venue came last season with 4,458 fans showing up for the final round clash with Melbourne Victory in March.
Sydney FC Captain Natalie Tobin echoed Juric’s sentiments, emphasizing the impact a passionate home crowd can have in a close contest.
“Leichhardt Oval has a unique atmosphere, especially when it’s packed with our supporters.
“We’re excited to be playing our first home game and need our fans to be loud and proud for us this weekend,” Tobin said.
“The support from the stands makes a huge difference, and in a derby match, it could be what pushes us to victory.”
With no Sydney FC A-League Men’s game due to an international break, the Sky Blues fans have ample opportunity to turn up and support the women.
Both Juric and Tobin know a record-breaking attendance will help lift Sydney FC as they continue their title defence.
Tickets for the derby are on sale now, with gates opening one hour before kick-off to accommodate what promises to be a highly charged crowd.
Adults are at $20 with juniors $10 each and a family ticket at $50.
