New Sydney FC recruit Mickael Tavares said he was pleased at the level of professionalism at the Sky Blues when he first arrived on Tuesday.

Tavares toured the training ground and met the squad and said the facilities on offer were excellent as he hopes to get up to speed as soon as possible ahead of the Sky Blues trip to Central Coast Stadium to face the Mariners on Saturday 24 January (kick off 7:30pm).

“I was really looking forward to seeing the team mates and coach and everything,” Tavares said.

“When I arrived I was surprised because I didn’t know Sydney FC was such a big club and everything is positive. The facilities are good and the ambiance in the team is very great.

“My first impressions are very positive,” he continued.

“Everyone was very nice and we hope to get fit very quickly and join the team for our first training. I hope to join in as soon as possible.”

Tuesday’s meeting was a reunion of sorts for Tavares as he met Milos Dimitrijevic for the first time in a decade after the pair played together at Nantes between 2004 and 2005 and the Senegalese international is looking forward to linking up with his new team mates and his cousin Jacques Faty.

“It’s nice to see him [Milos] again and he didn’t change, he’s still the same,” Tavares said.

“It’s been more than 10 years since we met in Nantes. We met on Monday, he came to the hotel. We were happy to see each other, and it was like 10 years ago, we didn’t change so we still the same.

“I hope [to link up well with Milos again] he’s a good player and very clever so I hope that can help us,” he continued.

“It’s always a motivation for me [to link up with Jacques] because we are so far away from our country and we want to leave a positive image.

“I’m here with my cousin so it’s a double pleasure for me to be here and we’re going to give 100% to get the objective for the club.”
