Nat Tobin Makes It Two Against Melbourne City

Sydney FC 2 (Siemsen 51’, Tobin 75’)  def. Melbourne City FC 0

Sydney FC have continued their 100% record with a fifth win in a row and sit top of the Westfield W-League ladder having scored 11 goals and conceded just one.

Moments That Mattered:

  1. WHYMAN SAVE – 7’ – The Sky Blues keeper produces a brilliant save, closing down Chidiac to deny from point blank range
  2. IBINI CHANCE – 43’ – Ibini drives into the left hand side of the 18 yard box, past her opposing defender and attempts to stab past the City keeper but it’s just saved in the nick of time
  3. SIEMSEN GOAL – 51’ – Siemsen makes it two games in a row on the scoresheet after finishing off a cut ball from Vine, placing the ball coolly into the bottom right corner.
  4. VLAJNIC SENT OFF – 55’ – The City defender is shown her marching orders following a lunging tackle on Vine who was clean through on goal.
  5. TOBIN GOAL – 75’ – Polias delivers a peach of a corner to an unmarked Tobin at the back post who belts home from close range with her head.

Sydney FC are four points clear of Canberra United who they play at home on Monday night, having defeated Melbourne City 2-0 away with goals from Remy Siemsen and Natalie Tobin.

The Sky Blues weathered a couple of early moments from the home side with Jada Whyman producing one world class save to deny City a break-away goal.

The ladies soon settled into proceedings and enjoyed the lion share of the game and chances throughout the first half, coming closest to finding the net through Ibini close to the break.

Ante Juric’s side continued in the same vein following the restart and were rewarded for their dominance as forward Remy Siemsen broke the deadlock after being tee’d up perfectly by Vine.

Sydney FC Celebrate Remy Siemsen's Opening Goal

Speedster Vine was again involved in another flashpoint shortly after the breakthrough as she was clumsily brought down on her way through to goal by Vlajnic who was immediately sent for an early shower with a red card.

With numerical advantage, the Sky Blues soon capitalised again this time through an unlikely source in centre half Tobin who thumped her header past the City custodian after being found at the back post by Polias.

Sydney FC saw out the odd City advances and had a number of chances through Siemsen and Vine to increase the lead.  They continue their unbeaten run this season and remain clear at the top of the table.

What they said: Natalie Tobin:

“I’ve scored a couple in previous years but it was nice to get one today.

“I think we definitely have the potential in this team to do it [go all the way].

“We had a little bit of a slow start, we flew down this morning, so I think we just came out firing in the second and we wanted to keep that track record.

“We’ll relax tonight, we’ve got an early flight tomorrow, some of the girls have work in the morning.  I think we land in Sydney at 8.30am and we don’t want to get stuck in quarantine so get back as fast as possible I think.”

Remy Siemsen: “I think you can see from the goalscorers this seasons that everyone is having a go and I think it just shows how well we work together.

“I was very fortunate to play with Prinny and Cortnee in the under 20’s national team a few years back, so we have a great chemistry and it’s always fun playing with them and there’s more goals to come.”
