Sydney FC Launch Skills Training Program

Sydney FC are proud to announce a series of community-based Skills Training programs to help young footballers reach their full potential.

Working with our partner Football Associations across Sydney, the weekly sessions provide a consistent training program to help kids develop their ability year-round.

The sessions also provide an opportunity for coaches to identify and nurture future Sydney FC Academy players as well as players for local Association representative teams.

The programs, which run in line with School terms, allow children aged from 7 to 12 to improve their four core football skills and learn the Sydney FC Football Philosophy, which has seen our club crowned Champions of both the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League.

Former Socceroo and Sydney FC star Paul Reid has developed a curriculum that focuses on developing players’ first touch, how they strike the ball, how they run with the ball and tackling 1 v 1 situations.

In the first roll-out of the program, Sydney FC are working with three key regional partners to deliver sessions to players: St George FA, Football South Coast and Manly Warringah FA. These partners are just three of the seven Associations who have signed Memorandums of Understanding with Sydney FC.

The Skills Training Programs will run throughout Term 3 across seven locations, with Macquarie University, Rockdale, Peakhurst, Albion Park and Wollongong open to all players. There are also programs exclusive to club registrants at Wakehurst and Pittwater on offer.

Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend said: “We are delighted to be working with our Associations to roll out these programs across the region.

“Our community team boast some of the best coaches in the country, and we hope to provide local youngsters with expert training that will enhance their regular club sessions and games.

“Skills Training is a good example of how we are working at grass roots level and is the first of many initiatives we are rolling out as our community team look to support our Association partners in the region.”
