Sydney FC W-League Head Coach Alen Stajcic has continued to solidify his squad by signing American forward Jasmyne Spencer on loan, ahead of the Westfield W-League 2014 season kick off.
Spencer, aged 24, began her career playing for the New York Fury in the Womens Premier Soccer League Elite before moving to Danish club Brøndby IF following the collapse of the WPSL. Spencer made two appearances in the UEFA Champions League during her time at Brøndby before joining the Washington Spirit in 2013 to compete in the newly formed National Womens Soccer League.
During her time in the American capital, Spencer made a total of 17 appearances then another two UEFA Champions League appearances for Apollon Limasol during the American offseason.
Spencer appeared 22 times for the Western New York Flash in 2014, scoring three goals, and joins a familiar face in Alen Stajcic’s side, Teigan Allen, with the pair most recently playing together in New York.
Head Coach Alen Stajcic was pleased with Spencer’s signing and believes she will add to the Sky Blues firepower as they look to regain the Championship this season.
“Jasmyne is an excellent addition to our side,” he said.
“For such a young age she brings experience and goals and I’m certain she’ll make our strike force even more lethal this season.
“I’d like to welcome Jasmyne to Australia, and to Sydney FC, and I can’t wait to start working with her.”
Spencer said she was looking forward to the experience of playing in Australia and hopes to carry her success in the United States down under.
“As a new player for Sydney FC I’m extremely excited not only to be granted a chance to play with great talent but to share mine as well,” Spencer said.
“I’ve never been to Australia and what better way to experience Australia than with Sydney FC.
“I’m coming off of a successful second year in the NWSL and I just want to continue that success. It’ll be good for me as an individual but even better for the team,” she continued.
“I’ve played along side three Australian internationals with the WNY Flash and I think they’ve showed me a little bit about how Australians view soccer and I hope to share some New York flare here.
“I just want to be an asset to the team and make my team proud.”
Spencer arrives next week, and pending international clearance, should be available for the Sky Blues first game as Sydney FC begin their Westfield W-League campaign against Adelaide United at Lambert Park on Sunday September 14 (kick off 4pm).
