Sky Blues Heartbreak At Leichhardt Oval

See the highlights from Leichhardt Oval

Sydney FC have suffered a heart-breaking, last gasp 3-2 defeat to the Reds at Leichhardt Oval tonight, despite a valiant second half fight back which almost earned them a point.

A goal in each half from Emily Condon put Adelaide United 2-0 to the good until Indiana Dos Santos’ polished finish and a solo effort from livewire Millie Farrow pulled Sydney FC level.

However a strike from outside the box from Chelsie Dawber in the 5th minute of injury time won the game for United.

83’ | DOS SANTOS CORNER CLEARED OFF LINE – The youngster crosses from the left, right-footed to the near post causing chaos and Tonkin clears off the line.

90’+3’ | FARROW GOAL – Lemon launches the ball forward and Farrow reacts quickest turning one way and then the other before a third switch onto her right foot to bring Sydney FC level.

90’+5’ | DAWBER GOAL – Sydney FC give the ball away in midfield and it’s played forward to Dawber who strikes low into the corner from outside the box.

Match Report: Sydney FChave lost 3-2 in devastating fashion to Adelaide United having come level at 2-all in the dying stages only for the Reds to go back ahead with two seconds on the clock.

Adelaide United took the lead in a dour first half when a ball played through by Leon caused a bit of confusion between Edwards and Chauvet as Condon beared down and when the ball popped loose the Reds striker poked it home for a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Condon had her second within 10 minutes of the re-start. Healy won the ball on the right and smashed a shot across goal which Edwards saved but it fell to Condon to slot home from close range.

The introduction of Farrow five minutes later almost paid dividends with the lively striker closing down a keeper clearance but when the ball fell Caspers she couldn’t direct her under the bar.

Farrow was instrumental again two minutes later as she found Ibini who chipped the ball to the back post for the ever-impressive Dos Santos to control, move around the keeper and slot home with aplomb.

Sydney FC were piling on the pressure looking for an equaliser and nearly found it ten minutes from time when Dos Santos found Caspers who cut inside and smashed a shot which was saved low by Jenkins.

Four minutes later an Indiana Dos Santos in-swinging corner from the left is bundled clear on the line, first by Jenkins and then by Tonkin before the Sky Blues could pounce.

What They Said: Ante Juric:- “Both teams everything Adelaide actually have a very good team with a couple of good foreigners.

“It hurts when certain things didn’t go our way.

“Everyone was good in the second, first half we weren’t 100% there.

“We were good in the second half, I don’t think they got in our half and then that mistake at the back.

“I’m sad for them because they deserve more, and one thing about the girls regardless of the results, I’m gonna back them all the way because as everyone has seen today they haven’t given up and they won’t give up.”
