Match Report

Sydney FC have lost 2-0 in the Big Blue after a goal in either half for Melbourne Victory decided the fixture.

The Sky Blues had an early goal disallowed after Adrian Segecic was adjudged to be offside before crossing to Patryk Klimala to tuck away from three yards.

Victory took the lead moments later when a left wing corner to the near post was headed home strongly by Vergos.

Grant header.

Sydney FC thought they had a penalty four minutes later when referee Lachlan Keevers pointed to the spot after Ouahim had been tripped by Miranda.

However VAR intervened and decided the contact was outside the box and a free kick ensued.

The Sky Blues continued to press for an equaliser and dominated the second half, however a break from Victory allowed Fornaroli to get clear and slot home the clincher in the final minute.

What They Said: Ufuk Talay: “The first half I thought was quite even. The difference was the game was about moments. They scored from a set-piece.

“I think we had eight shots and only one on target and I think that was the difference.

“We had good opportunities, Patryk’s one on one which Langerak saves, even Joe’s one on the second half where he slips over as he’s hitting the ball.

“I thought we pinned them back in the second half, we were just a little bit impatient at times to create that moment and more direct than we should have been.

“It’s disappointing to lose games but overall I think the energy, the attitude and mentality was good from the boys.”
