With three weeks of solid pre-season training under their belts, Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold believes the squad is shaping up nicely for the season ahead.
With three weeks of solid pre-season training under their belts, Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold believes the squad is shaping up nicely for the season ahead.
Nearly all the available positions have been filled and with only three spots remaining, Arnold confirmed that he is still chasing a marquee player who he hopes can provide goals and entertainment galore at Allianz Stadium this year.
“It-s going fantastic, there-s a real excitement around the place at the moment and in the dressing room,” Arnold said.
“The players are working extremely hard and the squad is slowly coming together how we want it.
“We-ve still got three spots open, two under 20 spots and we-ve still got the marquee to fill and I-m 95% sure that will be a number 9, another striker, a different striker than what we-ve got,” he continued.
“We-re looking for a good number 9, someone who can put the ball in the back of the net. It-s important that we get someone in who is still a good age, someone who can put the ball in the back of the net for us and provide a lot of excitement for the fans.”
While a marquee player may be the topic on everyone-s mind during the offseason, Arnold stressed that his key thoughts are about the performances he can get the Sky Blues to produce as he looks to solidify the positive team mentality he-s producing at the club.
“I think the most important thing for Sydney is the performance and trying to get success to the club,” said Arnold.
“There-s no use bringing names in if they can-t perform. I want players that can still perform and I want high standards at this club.
“I-m trying to do a good due diligence on who we bring across because it-s important that he-s the right style of player for us but also that he-s a character that fits well into the dressing room and into the team environment that we-re building.”
