Scarcella Joins Jets On Loan

Sydney FC’s young Academy graduate Matthew Scarcella will continue to progress his career by joining Newcastle Jets on loan for the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2024/25 season.

The Australian-born attacking midfielder has been a great addition to the Sydney FC A-League Men’s squad and will benefit from some increased first-team opportunities.

The 20-year old was signed by Sydney FC on a two year contract at the beginning of last season however he had limited game time making eight appearances from the bench.

Sydney FCs Head Coach Ufuk Talay believes it’s a great opportunity for him.

“I think this will be very beneficial for Matthew to grow as a player,” he said.

“Matthew is a good attacking midfielder and he has grown his skills and mentality here at Sydney FC.

“He hasn’t yet had the chance to properly show it on the pitch, so I am glad he is taking the chance to get himself recognized.

“A full season with Newcastle Jets could unlock a lot of Matthew’s potential and can give him some valuable experience.”

Scarcella’s six substitute appearances in the A-League for Sydney FC came in the form of five wins and one draw.

He also made two Australia Cup appearances, scoring during the penalty shootout win over Central Coast Mariners last season.

Scarcella started his career representing Sydney Olympic before joining Sydney FC’s Academy. He also had nine months with Xanthi in Greece where he had the opportunity to gain overseas playing experience.
