Rollason Praises Spirit After Tough Win

Sydney FC’s Renee Rollason has praised the spirit in the Sky Blues camp after the Sydney FC girls maintained their unbeaten start to the Westfield W-League on Sunday with a hard fought win over the Brisbane Roar.

Rollason notched both of the Sky Blues goals, with the team having to dig deep after Teigen Allen was dismissed, and she believes gaining maximum points from their opening two games will put them in good stead for a push for the title.

“It was a very tough game and we always knew going up to Queensland was always going to be hard,” Rollason said.

“As a team we played really well and I couldn’t be any prouder. We dug deep and came away with the win.

“It was hard when we went down to 10, but each and every one of the girls fought till the end. There was so much courage from the front all the way to the back,” she continued.

“I think having such a good start is important, especially when our season is so short. If you don’t win the first few that’s pretty much the season gone so to be two from two is amazing.”

Having seemingly retired at the end of last season Rollason has returned from that brief hiatus and, after scoring Sydney FC’s winner with a sublime free kick, she said it was a no brainer to continue playing for the club she adores.

“Personal reasons allowed me to continue playing,” she said.

“I love our team and the club so staying in Sydney it was a no brainer.

“It’s an awesome feeling to score, and to score the winning goal was pretty cool too, but credit to all the girls especially Nic [Bolger] who got the free kick.”

Rollason is expecting another difficult test on Saturday with Sydney FC gearing up for the first of two Westfield W-League Sydney Derbies, with the Sky Blues having the wood over the rivals after they emerged victorious in both encounters last season.

“It will be another tough game,” Rollason said.

“Every time we play the Wanderers is always a battle. We are all excited and pumped to go so hopefully we can keep our winning record going.”

Sydney FC will face the Western Sydney Wanderers away at Marconi Stadium on Saturday 27 September (kick off 3pm).
