Road to the Finals: A-League Women

Our Sydney FC women’s team have 3 games remaining in their 2024/2025 season. While it has been a difficult season historically, finals hopes are still alive.

With 3 games remaining, our Sky Blues sit at 19 points from 20 matches.

To secure a spot in the top six and qualify for the finals, we need to overcome a 6-point deficit, as the 6th-placed team, Brisbane Roar FC, has 25 points from 18 matches.

Sydney FC’s Remaining Fixtures:

  1. March 28, 19:00 – Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Sydney FC
  2. April 12, 14:15 – Sydney FC vs. Perth Glory
  3. April 18, 16:50 – Adelaide United vs. Sydney FC

Scenarios for Sydney FC to Reach the Top Six:

  1. Win All Remaining Matches: Our Sky Blues must aim to secure maximum points (9 points) from their final three games. This would elevate our total to 28 points.
  2. Depend on Other Results: To climb into the top six, teams currently above us, particularly Brisbane Roar FC (25 points from 18 matches), Canberra United (24 points from 20 matches), and Wellington Phoenix FC (23 points from 20 matches), need to drop points in their remaining fixtures.

Key Considerations:

  • Brisbane Roar FC: With four matches left, Brisbane Roar has the potential to accumulate up to 37 points. We would need Brisbane to secure no more than 2 points in their remaining matches.
  • Canberra United and Wellington Phoenix FC: Both teams have two matches remaining. We would need these teams to secure no more than 3 and 4 points, respectively, to overtake them.
  • Goal Difference: In case of tied points, goal difference becomes crucial. We currently have a goal difference of -8, while Brisbane Roar stands at +13.

While the path to the finals is challenging, it is still mathematically possible to reach the top six by winning all remaining matches and relying on favourable outcomes in other fixtures. Focusing on securing maximum points and improving their goal difference will be essential in their pursuit of a finals berth.

We are all backing our ALW side and behind them on this push to finals!
