Retre: My favourite moments have been with Sydney FC

During Sydney FC’s 3-0 win against Macarthur FC, Paulo Retre clocked up his 150th league appearance.

The milestone made the occasion even sweeter for the boy from Melbourne who never thought he would one day don the Sky Blue of Sydney FC.

“Obviously making my debut with Melbourne Heart is a standout, you never forget that moment. As a Melbourne boy, I never thought I’d play for Sydney FC,” Retre recalls.

“I didn’t hesitate at the opportunity when the call came from Sydney FC, at the time I knew a few of the players here, one being Michael Zullo who I’m quite close with and when Graham Arnold wanted me to come up here it seemed like a no-brainer, it’s been the best decision I’ve made. I’ve been here for a while now and it’s been very enjoyable.”

“Looking back, the best moments of my career have been at Sydney FC with all the trophies and success we’ve had here.”

Retre has played with a number of great players throughout his career in the A-League, but the midfielder cites his father as his greatest footballing influence.

“Ever since I was a young kid my dad mentored and coached me as a junior and has shaped me into the man and player I am today.”

With matches lately getting postponed due to Covid-19 related issues, Retre is eager to get back onto the field in front of the Sydney FC faithful soon.

“It’s been frustrating lately and it hasn’t been easy to maintain continuity but we’re getting on with it and working hard to ensure we’re motivated, fit and ready for when our next game is.”
