The impending arrival of Qantas Socceroo star Brett Emerton to Sydney FC has given his new team mates a massive lift with the opening of the Hyundai A-League just six weeks away.

Emerton is a genuine star of Australian Football and was still a starting member at Blackburn Rovers when he decided to swap the English Premier League for the Hyundai A-League.

It was a decision that came a year earlier than anyone could have imagined, but it has been met with overwhelming joy by the Sydney FC players.

“Everyone is buzzing,” said midfielder Nick Carle, who played with Emerton when the pair were teenagers at Sydney Olympic in the late 1990-s. “Emo is a massive player but he is also a great bloke and he is going to lift this club but he will also fit straight in.

“His football ability speaks for itself but what we are all happy about is that we are going to have an extremely professional player come to the club who we can all learn off. Not just the young boys, but all of us.”

Captain Terry McFlynn was also excited to be welcoming Emerton to the club: “Its tremendous news for the club. When we were told that it was official everyone was thrilled.

“Over the last few weeks while there was speculation and stories appearing in the press, and even a few months back when it was first in the papers, the boys were all pumped and to a man we all wanted Brett to join us at Sydney FC.

“The club should be congratulated for being able to bring such a great player to Sydney FC and we look forward to having him in the dressing room and standing beside us on the pitch.”

Ironically, Emerton-s signing came in the middle of the toughest fortnight of Pre Season training for the Sydney FC squad as they motor towards the start of the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League.

That tough training schedule continues this week with Sydney FC balancing a friendly with Sutherland Sharks at Seymour Shaw on Wednesday night with seven torturous session of the training pitch.
