Sydney FC forward Patrick Wood has signed a one-year contract extension keeping him with the Sky Blues until the end of the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2025-26 season, with the option of another.
The forward has represented Australia’s U23 team numerous times and was a part of the Sydney FC squad that won the Australia Cup last season, playing a key role as the team’s leading goal scorer during the competition.
The 22-year-old came through Sydney FC’s youth Academy and was part of the inaugural intake in 2015.
He made his debut with the Men’s first team against Shanghai SIPG in the AFC Champions League 2020 campaign in Doha.
The young Sydney-local striker has scored 15 goals for the club despite only making 26 starts.
After a six-month absence due to injury, Wood is eager to make an impact back on the pitch as soon as possible.
“I’m excited to be staying for two more years and I have the belief and determination to earn a regular first team position, contributing as many goals and assists as I can,” he said.
“I’ve got to repay the faith Uffy [Head Coach Ufuk Talay] has put in me with performances and goals.
“I’m ready to take my game to the next level and playing alongside the likes of Douglas Costa and some of the great players we have here, I believe I can do that.
“Having the support of the club has made me grow, and I can’t wait to push forward in the coming seasons.”
Head coach Ufuk Talay believes Wood can play a key role for the club in the years to come.
“He’s a player that gives his all every time he puts on the shirt. He plays with a lot of pride.
“Woody wears his heart on his sleeve and wants to do what is best for the club, fans and supporters.
“He has a great amount of unearthed talent which we want to see unleashed in the next couple of years and his attitude is first class.
“I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Wood is included in the extended squad to face the Wanderers in this Saturday’s Sydney Derby, for the first time since injury mid-way through last season.
