Pat Wood to join Perth Glory on loan

Sydney FC striker Pat Wood will join Perth Glory on loan for the remainder of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 season.

Wood, who signed a new two-year contract with Sydney FC at the beginning of this season, sees the loan as a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable game time and continue his development.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity with Perth Glory,” Wood said.

“It’s a chance for me to get consistent minutes on the pitch, showcase what I can do, and contribute to the team. I’m looking forward to performing well and making the most of this experience.”

Wood has made the majority of his appearances from the bench for Sydney FC and has a scoring record of a goal every 170 minutes (1 in 2 games) for the Sky Blues during that period.

He was the Sky Blues top scorer in the winning run in the Australia Cup 2023 campaign, scoring in every round apart from the Final.

The 22-year-old forward is familiar with Glory Head Coach David Zdrilic, who was previously an assistant coach at Sydney FC.

“Having worked with David before, I know he understands my style of play and what I can bring to the team.

“It’s a connection which will definitely help me hit the ground running,” Wood added.

Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay endorsed the move, highlighting the benefits of gaining experience in a new setting.

“This loan will provide Patrick with the chance to test himself in a different environment, which is a crucial part of any player’s development,” Talay said.

“He’s worked hard this season and has shown a lot of promise. We wish him the best and will be following his progress closely.”

Wood has already made an impact at Sydney FC over the past few seasons, winning the National Youth League title with the Sky Blues and earning praise for his determination and goal-scoring ability.

He will first be available for Perth Glory’s clash away to Newcastle Jets on Saturday, January 25th following Glory’s bye this weekend.
