Only Ourselves To Fear Says Faty

Sydney FC defender Jacques Faty believes the Sky Blues have no one to fear but themselves as they prepare for the penultimate match of the regular season on Friday night.

The Sky Blues, currently sitting in joint first place, take on the Newcastle Jets on Friday night at Hunter Stadium and Faty is expecting a tough encounter in what will be his first clash against the Novocastrians.

“Newcastle is a good team, even if they lose a few games before,” Faty said.

“I know they want to play good against us. It will be a tough game, an important game for us because we want to stay in the first position so it will be a good challenge for us.

“I think the enemy of Sydney FC is only Sydney FC because we have to improve together,” he continued.

“We have some good goals for the next few weeks and it will be interesting.

“I’m happy for the moment, I scored my first goal in this league, I’m very happy and I try to play good. Now I need to show what I can do this Friday, and the next game and the next game all the way into the playoffs.”

Faty praised his defensive partnerships with Nikola Petkovic, Matthew Jurman and Seb Ryall, as the French-Senegalese defender said he’s not surprised Sydney FC are contending for silverware, saying he joined one of the biggest clubs in Australia.

“I enjoy playing a lot with Nikola and Jurman,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter who plays, they are good. I prefer Nikola on the left side because he can bring and go with the ball. I’m good with Jurman and Sebba because we all play well together.

“All four defenders, we all communicate together but the most important thing is all the team defend together,” he continued.

“Everybody fights for everybody and that is the most important thing.

“I’m very impressed because this club is one of the biggest clubs of Australia and I’m not surprised that the players are good, the young players are very good here, the mix between the old and the young players is nice and very good. Sydney FC is a big club.”
