On This Day: West Ham Friendly – 2014

On This Day in 2014, Sydney FC took on West Ham United in Wellington as part of the Football United Tour and ran out 3-1 winners in the New Zealand sunshine.

An early goal to Corey Gameiro set the tone for the afternoon and before long, Alex Brosque doubled the Sky Blues advantage with a scintillating volley which raced past Adrian in the West Ham net.

Sydney FC soaked up much of the pressure with the Irons restricted to shots from outside the area and found themselves two goals to the good at the break.

In the second half, an unfortunate cross from West Ham diverted off captain Nikola Petkovic and over the head of Vedran Janjetovic to give the London side a lifeline in the contest.

However, the Sky Blues would have the final say with a possible handball from Terry Antonis setting up Corey Gameiro for his second of the afternoon and sealing the victory for the Sky Blues.

A great afternoon in Wellington as Sydney FC mixed it with some of London’s best.
