Everton manager David Moyes and his star Australian midfielder Tim Cahill heap praise on Sydney FC after the Sky Blues put in a stirring performance against the Toffees at ANZ Stadium.

The Hyundai A-League Champions more than aquitted themselves against the English Premier League unit and could have found the back of the net on numerous occassions.

Both Moyes and Cahill said the match, played in front of 40,466 fans, was the perfect preseason friendly and that Sydney FC should be praised for the way they played.

“It was really impressive to see the football Sydney played and also the way we played,” Cahill said..

“I warned the lads before the game how difficult this game was going to be, and how up for it they would be because I know a lot of the lads personally and they were a credit to themselves.”

The Sky Blues now turn their attention to their friendly against the Mariners at Sydney Showground on Saturday 17 July but have left a very favourable impression on Moyes.

“It was a tough game for us, I thought we played well, I thought we passed it well,” Moyes said.

“Maybe we didn’t get as many chances as we would want but overall I was pleased.

“We thought for our first pre-season game we played quite well, so that gives you an idea of where Sydney are.”
