Match Preview: Yokohama F. Marinos v Sydney FC

Sydney FC open their AFC Champions League 2020 Group H campaign away against Japanese Champions Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday night (kick off 9:30pm AEDT).

Handed another challenging group, the Sky Blues will also lineup against Korean Champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC and star studded Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.

The Sky Blues know the importance of securing points on the road in the competition, and travel to Japan full of confidence with a commanding 10 point lead at the top of the Hyundai A-League.

Yokohama are yet to kick off their domestic season, with their opening J1 League clash set for Sunday 23rd of February.

The reigning J1 League Champions boast a strong squad of local Japanese talent mixed with Brazilian flair in Marcos Junior, Thiago Martins, Erik and Edigar Junio.

Thai international Theerathon Bunmathan also joined Yokohama in 2019, after featuring with Lucas Podolski and Andres Iniesta at Vissel Kobe, and provides an added element of skill in Yokohama’s back line.

  • This will be the first ever game between Yokohama F. Marinos and Sydney FC in the AFC Champions League.
