Sydney FC can confirm that Joe Lolley will depart the club following a mutual decision between the player and the Sky Blues, bringing an end to an outstanding four-year spell in Sky Blue.
The English winger leaves as one of the club’s most influential overseas signings, having made 115 appearances and scored 36 goals since arriving ahead of the 2022-23 season.
During his time at Sydney FC, Lolley helped the club lift the Australia Cup, won the prestigious Mark Viduka Medal, claimed the Alex Tobin Medal, was named Sydney FC Player of the Year and earned selection in the PFA Team of the Year in 2024.
The 33-year-old also played a key role in guiding the Sky Blues to multiple Finals Series campaigns and became a firm fan favourite through his consistency, quality and commitment on the field.
Lolley said Sydney FC would always hold a special place in his heart.
“It’s sad, I’ve spent the last four years of my life here and with these boys, it’s never nice leaving but I move onto my next chapter and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“I think the love from the fans [is what I’ll take away].
“Ever since I’ve come here I have felt so supported and it has made it really easy, especially coming from so far away.
“It’s been an incredible part of my life and it’s been an incredible dressing room for four years, so many different people and characters, I’ve met and friends for life.
“It’s never nice having to miss those people and not being able to see those people as regularly as I do, but that’s life as a footballer and something you do get used to.
Lolley pinpointed the games against Western Sydney Wanderers and the 3-0 Big Blue win this season at Leichhardt Oval as his best memories in Sky Blue.
“I think the derby games were always the best games, with the packed houses and atmospheres were incredible. Those wins mean more than anything.
“The game against Melbourne Victory earlier this season, it was probably one of the best games I have had in my career.
“I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Leichhardt, English conditions and took me back to home, but there have been some great games across the four years.

“I would have liked more team awards, I have reached two semi-finals and a final since I’ve been here and it would have been nice to cap it off this season and win the Grand Final.
“But overall, I think it has been successful and I’ve loved every minute of it.
“I’ll always feel welcome coming back with the fans and the people around the club, so that in itself is a success.”
Sydney FC Men’s Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo paid tribute to Lolley’s contribution to the club.
“Joe has been an outstanding servant to Sydney FC and someone who has consistently delivered high-quality performances throughout his four seasons here,” he said.
“He is a player who sets high standards every day, whether that’s in training, on matchday or around the dressing room, and he has earned enormous respect from everyone at the club.
“His experience, professionalism and ability to influence games have been invaluable and he has played a significant role in helping drive standards within the squad.
“On behalf of everyone at Sydney FC, I’d like to thank Joe for everything he has given the club and wish him and his family every success for the future.”
Lolley reserved a final message for Sydney FC Members and supporters.
“Just thank you – since I’ve got here the support has been overwhelming. It’s just grown and grown and some of the receptions I’ve received, especially this season on the back of injuries, was really special to me and something you don’t take lightly.
“I’m sure we’ll cross paths again and I’m sure meet many of the fans again and say thank you in person.”
As for his next move, that’s still to be decided by the Englishman.
“Ideally I’d like to stay in Australia and play football, I still feel like I can really contribute and barring a few injuries I feel like I’m ready to prove myself again and I’m up for whatever challenge comes my way.”
Everyone at Sydney FC would like to thank Joe for his outstanding contribution to the club and wish him all the very best for the next chapter of his career.
