Jurman Not Fazed By Roar Attack

Boasting the best defensive record in the competition, Sydney FC defender Matt Jurman says he’s not worried about Brisbane Roar’s in form front three ahead of Friday night’s clash at Allianz Stadium (kick off 7:40pm).

The Sky Blues have conceded the least amount of shots on goal and come up against an a Roar side who boast the most goals scored in the 2015/16 season, however Jurman said there’s no cause for concern as he prepares to face his former side.

“I think it will be pretty tight, but maybe the second half will open up a bit,” Jurman said.

“It’s been a good start for us so far and it’s going to be a good game on Friday night against the team coming second, it’s going to be a big game and we’re looking forward to it.

“They’ve started well and they’ve got some players in form, mainly up front, so I think they’ll play the same but we’re not worried.

“We’ve got the best defensive record in the league and we’re very confident about tomorrow night’s game.”

Jurman said the Sky Blues defensive record to date is a collective effort among the whole squad as he said it was an area of Sydney FC’s game that Head Coach Graham Arnold spent time heavily on during preseason.

“It’s a team effort,” Jurman said.

“It’s easier for me at the back when the boys are playing so well further up and to the side of me. Hopefully we can keep the clean sheets coming.

“We worked hard on it [defending] in preseason. It was one of our goals this season to be a lot better in defence and keep more clean sheets.

“It’s a whole team effort, it starts from the front, so far it’s been great and hopefully we can start scoring some more goals now.

“It’s always nice when you’re at the top but you’ve got to be playing well every week,” he continued.

“The table is only new, it’s only five weeks in, so we’ve got to be tight and every week everyone wants to beat you so you’ve got to make sure you get results.”
